BEFORE YOU GO

All travelers to Nepal must hold a valid passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your expected date of departure from Nepal. An entry visa for Nepal is also required. It can be obtained either in advance from your local embassy or upon arrival in Nepal. If you plan to obtain it in Nepal be sure to bring one extra passport size photo with you for this purpose.

Money can be exchanged at international airport, banks and money exchanging station. You can find many money exchanging counters around tourist areas. Exchange money only with authorized agencies because it’s illegal to exchange foreign currency with unauthorized individuals

While travelling in Nepal you are allowed to bring 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or a similar about of tobacco products and 1 liter of alcohol. Traveler should declare electronic goods such as cameras, phones, recorders upon the arrival in Nepal. It is illegal to export anything older than 100 years. Please do not take any religious objects like prayer stones, statues, temple ritual objects etc. without certificate from the Department of Archeology.
